COMBAT RADIO 12/30/2010

LA TALK RADIO - COMBAT RADIO - 12/30/2010

Well! Here comes 2011!

At Combat Radio yesterday I give a quick shout to Martin Grace and Ingrid Pitt who we lost in 2011, we also discuss esoteric intelligence methods, UFOs, RoS, sing: "Oh! What a Circus" from Evita, we talk about teaching in LA schools, drink GT Vodka, talk NASCAR and we later discuss Buzz Aldrin punching intrusive and disrespectful wannabe documentary makers!

It was great fun! Thanks Camden, Ethan and Jason....I think..

I wish everyone a safe, peaceful and prosperous 2011!

Cheers,

Mark

Betty Hughes - April 6th 1925 - November 2nd 2010

Betty Hughes passed peacefully surrounded by her three loving children and close family.  Betty was a remarkable and courageous individual who anchored her children's lives in a stoical sense of emotional commitment enriched with an enduring and abiding spirit of adventure. Betty taught us the traditions of perseverance, patience and respect but also filled us with a fearless and ambitious curiosity about the world. Betty wasn't just our mum. She was our emotional touchstone, our wisest counsellor and our truest and most selfless friend.  We honor her life-journey by celebrating these most precious gifts and we'll continue her legacy and her memory by recognizing and acknowledging the simple and yet profound emotional foundations on which she so wisely and generously empowered our lives.   Yorkshire - Nov 3rd 2010

A Sneak Peak at The Wildwood Tarot (coming Spring 2011)

If you're a fan of The Greenwood Tarot, which I originally created with the talented Chesca Potter, you know it's been out of print for several years. Well, I am so happy to tell you that a new, reconceived version is coming, The Wildwood Tarot.  Today I announced a sneak peak at the new deck, so here you go!

Please tell us what you think!

July 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mark Ryan, actor and swordmaster, is best known for his role as Nasir in the TV series Robin of Sherwood and as the voice of Bumble Bee and Jetfire in the Transformers films. In 1996, Ryan and visionary artist Chesca Potter collaborated to produce The Greenwood Tarot. The Greenwood Tarot quickly achieved cult status and has been out of print for several years. Now Ryan and long-time friend and Tarot expert, John Matthews, have combined their skills and love of the ancient woods to reconceive the original deck and book pack and release it as The Wildwood Tarot. The Wildwood Tarot will be available spring 2011 through Sterling Publishing (US) and Connections Book Publishing (UK).  Read more>>

Well...Back on the set in Long Beach. I have to say that was one of the most amazing days of my life, working in this ethereal and challenging business. Brilliantly talented people, and one truly legendary American hero, working with humor and focussed professionalism on groundbreaking material and concepts. It's profoundly rewarding to simply be a proactive, cognitive and effective cog in this magical, fiery and universally creative wheel.

Review of The Pilgrim #2 Greg Burgas in Comics Review

The Pilgrim #2 (of 6) by Mark Ryan (writer), Mike Grell (artist), Jason Millet (colorist), and John Workman (letterer). $3.99, 22 pgs, FC, IDW/ComicMix.

I'm going to assume that Ryan pulls this all together further on down the line (don't spoil it for me how he does it!), because it's a bit mysterious right now. I mean, we have a ton of plot threads, and the ones from last issue come a bit more into focus, but we still have a lot of seemingly disparate weird things going on that are sufficiently unexplained. I don't mind, though - I like a good mystery as much as anyone, and as long as Ryan knows what he's doing, I'm happy to look at Grell's fantastic artwork and enjoy the ride. Grell gives us a few double-page spreads that are simply amazing, and his storytelling skills are so good Ryan often steps back and lets him go nuts, and he still advances the story well. It's very impressive.

So, yeah. Not a lot to say about this. There's demon stuff, parallel dimensional stuff, and other bizarre stuff. Fun times all around! But for now, it's worth it just to look at. Who doesn't love Grell's art?

Vineyard Film Festival- Cyprus, March 26-28

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to attend and participate in The Vineyard Film Festival due to open in Cyprus on 26-28 March. This will also include the postponement of the presentation of the musical project: Wuthering Heights. Everyone involved with this project was looking forward to the presentation and we're all very saddened and disappointed by the current turn of events

We all wish the festival the best of luck and hope everyone has an amazing time.

Kind Regards,

Mark Ryan

THE WILDWOOD TAROT

OK! John Matthews and I have finally finished the new Wildwood Tarot text!

The whole Eddison Sadd team have been great and Will Worthington is doing an amazing job with his stunning artwork. I'm very happy with the whole look and feel of the project.

After 15 years, I guess it's about time!

Martin Grace 1942-2010

I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of one of nature's true gentleman. Dear friend and colleague; Martin Grace.

My sincerest condolences go to his family and those who's lives were touched by Martin's boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm and thoughtful generosity.

Always understated and humble, Martin was truly a uniquely gifted individual and an amazing stunt performer and coordinator.

Truly a courageous force of nature and a sad loss to all those who were blessed with his company, companionship and kindness.

You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered, dear friend.

EDGE OF DARKNESS PREMIER

I had an absolutely amazing evening at the "Edge Of Darkness" premier last night at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, courtesy of old mate; Ray Winstone!

I won't say too much about the movie and give the plot away, but Ray was absolutely outstanding as Darius Jedburgh and almost steals the film from Mel Gibson, who gives one of the finest performances of his career. It was also really nice to spend some time at the party with Ray's beautiful wife, Elaine and catch up with pals Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Hannah! You guys rock!

Edge of Darkness is timely, taught and thought-provoking filmmaking, directed by Martin Campbell with a fantastic supporting cast, including Danny Huston.

Mel Gibson is back on tense and dynamic form. Go see it!

Have you Seen This Video?

This is a brilliant video by my friend Jess Harnell (you may know him as the voice of Ironhide in Transformers ROTF) - he is a hell of a singer and this mash-up is amazing. His band is Rock Sugar, the song is familiar (or is it?) Check it out.

BAFTA Event at Sony Studios with Michael Bay and the Sound Crew

I had a wonderful evening at Sony Studios at a BAFTA presentation of the sound production team for Transformers-Revenge Of The Fallen with Michael Bay and the entire sound mixing and editing crew! The presentation was held in The Cary Grant sound mixing theater on the Sony Lot and Michael Bay was MC! Greg Russell, Gary Summers, Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van Der Ryn all gave fun and informative insights about the building of the Sound-Scape for ROTF. Great stuff and good luck with all the awards. You deserve it chaps!
